The New York Yankees' lineup has seen better days and the Detroit Tigers are looking to take advantage of it. The team will send rookie Alex Colome to the mound in hopes of exploiting the struggling New York team.The rookie was brought up to replace Alex Cobb, currently sidelined with a concussion, and won his first start against the Miami Marlins. He held the team to one unearned run in five innings. The 24-year old struck out two and allowed just five hits in the road win.
Colome will look to do the same against a Yankees' team that has scored just 63 runs total in June. They are tied for the third-fewest runs in baseball, hitting just .209 in their last 13 games. The Yankees showed signs of life on Friday, getting the 6-2 win over Tampa.
CC Sabathia will get the start for New York. He is 7-5 with a 2.73 ERA at home this season. He has recorded at least nine strikeouts in his last three home starts, throwing a complete game back on June 5. He lost his last three starts to Tampa, but they were on the road. He dropped three consecutive starts against the team, posting a 6.97 ERA in the process and going winless in his last five starts. His strong record will home will have to push him to get the win this time around.
New York's bullpen can pick up where Sabathia leaves off, recording 3 1/3 scoreless innings on Friday. They has surrendered runs in their last eight appearances, posting a 5.47 ERA in the stretch.
