NFL Rumors: Johnny Manziel Leaving Texas A&M? Hints Early Exit on Twitter with 'Can't Wait to Leave' Tweet

Jun 17, 2013 09:31 AM EDT

Johnny Manziel does not seem to realize that nothing is actually deleted on the Internet. No matter how quickly a tweet is deleted, it will somehow find a way to resurface. On Sunday, the Texas A&M quarterback learned that lesson the hard way after a quickly deleted post on Twitter made headlines.

The quarterback wrote, "I can't wait to leave College Station." Manziel quickly deleted the post and replaced it with a tweet declaring his love for his college while also telling people to "walk a day in my shoes." This is not exactly the thing to be making headlines for so close to the 2013 college football season. With three years of NCAA eligibility left, Manziel could wait to enter the NFL in 2016. However, that tweet hints that he could plan on entering the draft next season when he will be officially NFL eligible.

This is not the first time that Twitter has landed Manziel in muddy water. As the current reigning Heisman Trophy winner and football phenomenon, he is now a public figure with more than 360,000 followers. In March, Manziel vowed to stop tweeting, saying the social media avenue was becoming a distraction. He then resumed tweeting a few weeks later.

Manzeil's every move has fallen under the media spotlight. From trips to New Orleans to sitting courtside at NBA games, everyone is watching what he will do next. Since Manziel is one year away from possibly entering the NFL, many believe the deleted tweet is a sign of things to come. A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin recognizes that his quarterback has been receiving constant attention since the 2012-13 football season ended.

"I've seen it, just like everybody else. I think being around other guys in the past has helped me, but there's never been anything like this before. Being around Adrian Peterson or Jason White or Sam Bradford or Case Keenum or Drew Brees, people like that, that's part of the deal. When you are a nationally recognized person, whether you're young or a freshman or an older guy there are some things that come with that," Sumlin said.

The head coach insists that Manziel is still learning and still growing as a person. He supports whatever the quarterback decides to do. It is no doubt every NFL team will be watching this season after he led the Aggies to their best season since 1956. He set an SEC single-season record of 5,116 total offensive yards and 47 touchdowns total.
