Manchester City Transfer News: Mancini Reveals Cavani Interest; Isco To Decide Future Soon

Jun 17, 2013 01:17 AM EDT

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed the club were interested in Edinson Cavani during his reign, while Isco said he will make a decision on his future in the next seven days.

Mancini was let go by City at the end of last season, after failing to win a single trophy all campaign. Manuel Pellegrini replaced the Italian and has already strengthened his side for next season by signing the likes of Jesus Navas from Sevilla and Fernandino from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Cavani is another name thought to be on City's radar and Mancini admitted the Uruguayan international was someone the club have had their eye on for quite some time.

"When I was at City I often spoke about Cavani with the management because he was somebody who could have been targeted," Mancini is quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News

"However, I don't know now whether he is of interest in the club's new technical project."

One of the proposed moves to try and bring Cavani to the Etihad has been selling Edin Dzeko to Napoli as part exchange in a cash plus player deal, and Mancini has no doubts Dzeko will flourish in Serie A.

"Dzeko is a great striker and he could score 20 to 30 goals a season in Italy, I'm sure of that," he added.

Another player thought to be close to moving to City in the summer is Spanish sensation Isco. The Malaga playmaker has been in brilliant form for Spain in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, leading them to the final of the tournament.

Pellegrini is keen to link up with Isco again at City, but the English Premier League side face stiff competition from Real Madrid.

"In seven days I will decide my future," Isco told reporters.

"After the U-21 Euros I will analyse my situation and make the best choice for my future.

"At the moment I am calm and focused on my work with the national team.

"City or Madrid? I can't say. Pellegrini is a great coach, though, of that there is no question."

Real are still in with a shout of snatching Isco, with the Spanish club's trio Alvaro Morata, Nacho and Daniel Carvajal, all of whom are part of the Spain squad, doing their best to convince the Malaga star to move to the Bernabeu.

"Those (Morata, Nacho and Carvajal) indeed are the guys insisting (for the move to Real Madrid)," Isco added. "We'll see what happens.

"I try to draw the line there. We have the U-21 final and need to focus all five senses on that now."
