For Ferrer, it's his first finals at a grand slam ever. He has made it to the quarterfinals and semis consistently, but he's never reached a higher plateau. Not only is he in the finals, he has a chance to win his first grand slam title. However, he will be going up against fellow countryman and arguably, the best tennis player at the French Open.
Rafael Nadal has won 11 grand slam titles in his career, seven of which have come at Roland Garros. With another victory he could win a record eighth French Open title and capture his 12th grand slame title, becoming the second youngest player in Men's Singles to win 12 titles at the age of 27 and six days old. Only Roger Federer accomplish has accomplished the feat at a younger age as he was 26 years and 32 days old when winning his 12th grand slam championship.
It's important to point out that Ferrer has yet to drop a set at the French Open. He completely crushed a motivated Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three straight sets in the semis to earn a spot in the finals. Not that Nadal and Tsonga share the same skill sets, but Ferrer proved to have the focus and poise to defeat a player of high caliber that had the crowd behind him.
