Ahmad Bradshaw Rumors: Indianapolis Colts Pursue Running Back, Contract Offer Likely After Workout

Interest in veteran running back Ahmad Bradshaw is low, dangerously low. When first released by the New York Giants, Bradshaw took a few visits. Both the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers showed brief interest, but nothing formal came of it. The NFL Draft came and went and Bradshaw remained unsigned. His future looked grime until now as the Indianapolis Colts are bringing him in for a workout.

Almost all teams that had been interested in a running back, took care of that issue in the draft as the year was stacked with younger backs with fresh legs. Green Bay drafted Eddie Lacy. The Steelers signed LeVeon Bell. Now that it is June and teams get a look at the holes in their rosters, Bradshaw is back on the radar.

Bradshaw will be visiting the Colts on Thursday, which could be a decent landing spot for the veteran. As of now, Indianapolis has Vick Ballard as their leading running back with a decent No. 2 in Donald Brown. In his rookie year, Ballard played all 16 games, rushing for 814 yards and two touchdowns. Brown will be entering into his fifth year with the Colts. Last season he produced 417 yards and one touchdown.

Bradshaw would be a guaranteed threat in the backfield. He is known to be able to grind out yards and be a solid short yardage, goal-line rusher. He has also proved to be decent pass protector after helping out quarterback Eli Manning for years.

The one hindrance for Bradshaw is his health. The reason he reportedly did not sign with the Steelers was because the team deemed him still unhealthy enough to be a solid option. The running back has had several issues with his foot, undergoing several operations. Despite the injury, the workhorse still managed over 1,000 yards last season. The colts could desperately use those numbers on the ground game.

If the Indianapolis visit does not end with contract negotiations, Bradshaw could not see the field in 2013, unless a team suffers an injury. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might be the only other options, just looking at roster needs, but that is it. The veteran will likely take whatever contract is offered at this point.
