Jamie Carragher admitted to being a little emotional after seeing his stellar Liverpool career come to an end with a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Anfield in the final day of the 2012-13 English Premier League season.
Carragher had announced his retirement from the game in February, but despite having a few months to prepare, the rock-solid defender admitted it was not easy to say goodbye to the club he has been with since he was a boy.
"I'm not the type to get too emotional but it is emotional," Carragher admitted to Liverpool's official website.
"I've got my friends and family in the stands; I just wanted to concentrate on the game.
"We got the win that we wanted and I can go and enjoy myself now.
"It's brilliant. We always have a great time at the last game of the season. It was a special send-off for me and a day I'll never forget.
"I've been playing here a long time and it's sad to think I'll never play at this stadium again in a competitive game.
"But it has to come to an end at some stage and I've got some great memories."
The 35-year-old nearly made it an absolutely perfect send-off with a thunderous strike from distance nearly going in; but unfortunately it missed the target by a whisker, striking the woodwork instead.
"I'll have to watch it again on LFC TV, I thought it was in," he said. "It was one of those things -- it gives everyone something to talk about tonight."
