The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off of another mediocre season and as a way to push quarterback Josh Freeman, the team drafted rookie Mike Glennon and now the former NC State quarterback wants to do the best he can for the team.
According to Pro Football Talk, Glennon does not plan to take a "back seat" as he prepares for the upcoming season with the Buccaneers and that means Josh Freeman's job could be in jeopardy. Glennon said on the radio in an interview that he wants to be a good teammate and to earn the respect of the team and his coaches and that he is going to try and get better and better every day. He said that he wants to compete and will do whatever he can to be at his best for the team.
While Mark Dominik was the one who drafted Freeman, Greg Schiano wasn't and he won't be tied to anything as he tries to figure out what to do after Freeman had a step back year last season. He already said that Glennon will get more reps than Dan Orlovsky and Freeman in the preseason and if he doesn't get the job by 2013, it could be for next year.
He also may follow in the footsteps of his predecessor at NC State, as Russell Wilson beat out Matt Flynn for the starting job in Seattle last year and that could happen again in Tampa Bay.
"I just want to be a good teammate," Glennon recently told SiriusXM NFL Radio, via JoeBucsFan.com. "I'm going to be a good teammate to all the guys, to the quarterbacks, to the line, to everybody. And earn the respect that way and kinda take everything in and listen to what they have to say. But at the same time, I don't know if taking a backseat would be the right term because I'm a competitor and I'm going to do whatever I can to compete. So at the same time, though, I understand I'm a rookie and it's a process, and I'm just going to worry about getting better each and every day and let things play out that way."
