NFL Rumors: Oakland Raiders, Charles Woodson Negotiating Deal with Offer on Table as Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers Pursue Veteran

Charles Woodson just wants to sign with a team. He has lowered his expectations. He has lowered his salary demands. He just wants to play football in 2013. Interest has been significantly low on the veteran. He had receiver some initial interest from the San Francisco 49ers prior to the draft, but nothing formal came of it, leaving him still without a team. Well, that could all change soon enough as the Oakland Raiders have an offer on the table for Woodson.

Woodson could be ending his career in the exact place it began. Woodson's agent, Carl Poston, told ESPN that there is an initial offer from the Raiders on the table for the veteran to join the team in 2013. There are no details about the length and size of the contract, but the Raiders are certainly interested in bringing back one of their biggest stars.

While the deal is on the table, Woodson still remains unsigned, likely indicating that he was not impressed with their offer. He is set to visit the Denver Broncos on Wednesday and will possibly wait and see if the team offers him something better than the Raiders. The Broncos do not necessarily have a big need at the safety position, but have shown some interest.

Poston also confirmed that the Carolina Panthers have contacted Woodson about a possible visit. They are in need of a veteran safety to help a struggling secondary. At this point, the Raiders and Panthers might be the best option for Woodson.

At the start of free agency, Woodson expressed interest in going to a Super Bowl contending team. If the Broncos offer him a contract, he would sign since they are in hunt for the championship in 2013. However, he backed off those statements recently, saying that he would not mind joining a rebuilding effort.

This is where Oakland makes sense. General manager Reggie McKenzie has said that the team intends on competing in 2013, but will not likely be in the running for a Super Bowl. Woodson could bring his veteran leadership to the young team and be a crucial part in the rebuilding efforts happening in Oakland. After a cold market for Woodson for a few months, it now seems like he might have his pick of teams in the coming week.
