NFL Rumors: Denver Broncos Pursue Charles Woodson, Oakland Raiders Reunion Still Option After Lowering Salary Demands

The market for Charles Woodson is finally heating up. In the past week, several teams have shown interest in the veteran cornerback, making the chances that he plays next season much greater. The Baltimore Ravens have toyed with the idea of signing him to help a still somewhat depleted backfield and the Oakland Raiders have opened the door for Woodson to return. Now, the Denver Broncos are hosting him for a visit.

Woodson has realized that the he must lower his standards in order to sign with a team in time for next season. Just recently he has said he would be willing to take a pay cut and join a team that is in a rebuilding phase just he can continue to play football. To his pleasure, he might not be forced to lower his standards after all. Woodson is expected to visit Denver this week and discuss a possible contract.

This is the first team that has shown enough interest to give Woodson a visit. The other suitors have merely just considered looking at him, but have brought nothing formal on. His lack of suitors has led Woodson to believe that his age is playing a large part in the reason teams are generally uninterested in his services. The one-time Defensive Player of the Year is 37 and likely does not have too many playing days left.

Denver already has Rahim Moore and Mike Adams as their starters in the backfield, but Woodson could add some quality depth to the backfield. The Broncos are aiming for a Super Bowl this season and it could be a good place for Woodson to play out the rest of his career.

If a deal with the Broncos does not come to fruition, there is still a chance Woodson could return to the Oakland Raiders. They certainly fit the bill of rebuilding and Woodson is very familiar with the team. After spending the first eight years of his career in Oakland, a return back could be what he needs to regain some productivity. The Raiders are not overflowing with cash, but Woodson is not likely to command a large contract it could be a perfect fit for both sides.

The increase in interest bodes well for Woodson's playing chances. While nothing is formal, he at least has a few options that might end up working out.
