New York Giants Rumors: Owner John Mara Confident In Victor Cruz Contract As Wide Receiver Planning Holdout After Workouts For Long Term Deal?

New York Giants owner John Mara said that he was confident while speaking on the radio about signing wideout Victor Cruz to a new deal and that the team has made a very good offer. Both sides have been apart on money so far, but everyone agrees that a deal is likely to get done.

As the Giants offseason schedule continues to move down the line, the absence of wide receiver Victor Cruz is becoming more and more noticeable and the longer he is out the worse it could be for the Giants.

The New York Giants had a solid draft last month as the team selected offensive lineman Justin Pugh with their first round draft pick and since the team did not draft a linebacker, which was a position of need, general manager Jerry Reese has started to look elsewhere for players at the position, including at free agent Aaron Curry.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Daily News reports that the Giants are going to bring in Curry for a visit on Thursday, as they are looking for more depth at linebacker after the draft and the offseason, as they lost Chase Blackburn to the Panthers and Clint Stintim to retirement. Curry was a top pick by the Seahawks and went number four overall, but he was a huge bust and ended up on the Raiders after being traded for a late draft pick. The 27-year-old ended up a free agent after being cut by the Raiders, who released a number of veterans as they tried to retool their roster.

Curry could be a good fit for the Giants, as he could come in a try to prove he is healthy and not a total bust, while also filling a huge need for the team. Curry was drafted in 2009 and after dealing with injuries over the past year, the report says he is feeling healthy and could have looks from more teams than just the Giants. Curry was a beast in college while winning the Butkus Award and he is still young at 27-years-old.

The Seahawks eventually got fed up with Curry and traded him to Oakland for a seventh round pick and a fifth round pick in October and was later cut in November. Past injuries have not kept the Giants from looking at talent at linebacker, as the team has good coaches and if the talent is there they usually can find some production, as they did with Keith Rivers and others over the years like Keith Bullock. Curry played in just two games and could have a bounce back year for the Giants.
