Linebacker Michael Boley is a free agent still after being cut by the Giants and one reason could be an incident related to child abuse stemming from 2011 in which he reached a plea deal and he was arrested three days after he was released.

According to Yahoo Sports, Boley was arrested for child abuse after being let go by the team and the incident goes back to 2011 in Alabama when he was under an investigation for an issue regarding his five-year old son. The report, according to TMZ.com and Pro Football Talk, the case was scheduled to go to a grand jury, but an agreement was reached and allowed the court in Etowah County, Ala., to give Boley a chance to enter a program which would result in the dropping of charges after completion.

The Giants released Boley early in the year due to salary cap reasons and the team said, according to Pro Football Talk, that they has no idea about his legal troubles before cutting him. TMZ reports that the abuse was not sexual but physical and that he was set to earn over $4 million when he was cut. The team said it was not related despite the fact that he was arrested just days later.

According to the police report, Boley was mentioned with Section 26-15-3 of the Alabama Code, which describes  felony for any adult person to "torture, willfully abuse, cruelly beat or otherwise willfully maltreat any child under the age of 18 years" in the adult's care.
