Two teams stuck at the bottom of the IPL 2013 points table will lock horns when the Delhi Daredevils host the Pune Warriors Sunday.
The match will be the first IPL game to be played at the Chattisgarh International Stadium in Raipur, as Delhi Daredevils look to not just get out of the mire that they find themselves in but also expand their fan base.
Following their woeful run when they lost their first six games of IPL 2013, the Daredevils made a call to West Indian legend Vivian Richards, who has joined the team in an ambassadorial and advisory role.
Richards is regarded as one of the greatest batsman of all-time, and he is certain the Delhi Daredevils, who have lost seven of their eight games so far, have it in them to find a way to climb up the table.
"There is a much bigger picture I guess than what we have this year," Richards said. "The IPL is a substance league. A league where you have the best players from all parts of the world assemble here.
"As such players would have been in this situation before and it is of vital importance that everyone continues to keep faith. And I myself, as a motivational factor, have always felt, 'never say die.' My job where some of the players are concerned is to mobilize them and keep them focused.
"They got themselves into wonderful positions before. Regardless of the performances that you are seeing now, they couldn't have become a bad team overnight, there is some work to be done.
"Also, we have to take into consideration as well that some of the key players are not here and the sympathies can be felt in certain ways. With some of the younger players on board, we are in the belief that with experience that they can certainly get stronger, that hopefully they will start performing from the next match.
"It is important that everyone remains collectively well together and hope that better days will be just around the corner."
Delhi will not have a better opportunity to post their second win in IPL 2013 than against the struggling Pune Warriors, who have won just two in eight themselves. More importantly, the Pune bowlers will be reeling from the assault handed out to them by Chris Gayle in the last game, and the Daredevils will be keen to take advantage of that fact.
