Brett Archibald knows how to catch a wave, but after surviving 27 hours lost at sea in the Indian Ocean he is a true survivor and is thankful for making it through the harrowing ordeal alive.

According to Yahoo.com, Archibald is a surfer from South Africa and he survived for 27 hours in the ocean after falling overboard of a boat he was on and no one noticed he was gone until the following day, leaving him to figure out how to survive. The surfer laid on his back for 27 hours to stay afloat and spent time treading water to say above the surface despite having nothing to support himself. He was on a charter boat and said that he could see land many times, but the strong current kept him from making it.

Archibald said he thinks he passed out on the boat after getting sick and that he blacked out and almost drowned a number of times.

"The human body is an amazing, amazing thing," Archibald said. "I don't think I could have gone much beyond today, by the time night came I might have been cactus."

"My husband is the most unbelievable man," Archibald's wife Anita told Surfline. "He's like MacGyver. He'd know exactly what to do."
