Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Rumors: No Tim Tebow Trade Makes Geno Smith Top Option As Dee Milliner, Luke Joeckel and Shariff Floyd Mock Targets

Apr 03, 2013 04:24 PM EDT

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a very favorable position heading into the 2013 NFL draft, as the team has the number two pick and can react to whatever the Chiefs decide to do, whether it's take Geno Smith or one of the top offensive line prospects, leaving the Jags with a wealth of options.

The Jaguars have needs at nearly every position and new general manager David Caldwell will likely take a pragmatic approach and draft the best player on the board. Caldwell showed his determination to be wise in the draft when he spurned a decision to trade for Tim Tebow and while the team isn't totally sold on Blaine Gabbert, they feel comfortable waiting another year to get his replacement.

The team was mentioned in rumors for Matt Flynn when news first broke about him being on the trade block, but the Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders were looked at as more realistic contenders and that is why he ended up out West. The team also was rumored to be in the running for Carson Palmer, but he wanted to stay on the West coast and felt it best if he was with Larry Fitzgerald.

The Jaguars went just 2-14 last season and were one of the worst offenses in the NFL, but they have some talent in Maurice Jones-Drew and Cecil Shorts and so far head coach Gus Bradley has been doing all the right things while implementing his system. The scouts and Caldwell are doing their due diligence as well, as the team is meeting with all the top quarterbacks in the draft, igniting the possibility that they could take one of them.

According to NFL.com, the team is meeting with Matt Barkley, Mike Glennon from NC State, Ryan Nassib from Syracuse, EJ Manuel from Florida State and they already met with Geno Smith, who could be a top 10 pick. The Chiefs are likely to select one of the top linemen in Eric Fisher or Luke Joeckel, leaving players like Dion Jordan and Dee Milliner for the Jags if they want them.

The Jaguars are meeting with Jordan and Fisher on Wednesday, while other players will also be coming in. Some other options for the Jaguars include defensive tackle Shariff Floyd from Florida, as well as Lane Johnson and Chance Warmack from Alabama. Jarvis Jones could be a sleeper at linebacker after having a monster season for Georgia, while Floyd is looking more and more like the pick as he has shown to be a dominant force on the line, something the Jaguars haven't had for years.

Jaguars Draft prediction: The team selects second in the 2013 NFL draft

-Who Should the Jaguars Pick?: Dee Milliner if he gets by the Chiefs. He could be a premier corner in the league for years.

-Who Will They Pick?: Shariff Floyd from Florida. The Warren Sapp-like presence of Floyd is too good to pass up.
