Robinson Cano with Jay Z Means He Stays a New York Yankee? No More Boras

Robinson Cano fired the infamous Scott Boras and went for hip hop mogul and entrepreneur Jay-Z as his new agent. Cano is facing a pivotal decision at the end of the year as he'll become a free agent, unless the New York Yankees offer him a new deal. That's where Jay-Z comes into play. Will the Brooklyn native convince Cano to remain a Yankee?

Let's face it, Derek Jeter, the current captain, is old and injured. It's obviously time for him to call it quits. So Cano will become the face of the Yankee team. Who else should become the face of the franchise. I'm not saying Cano has to become a captain, but the Yankees need somebody to give them an identity.

Cano has experienced everything in New York. He won a championship in 2009 a year after the Yankees didn't make it to the playoffs. Cano is a power hitter and gold glover. The Yankees would love to place their future on Cano's shoulders. As long as the future is five to seven years and not 10 like they did with Alex Rodriguez, the Yankees look like they have a player in Cano.

This is where Jay-Z comes to play. It could be said that Cano wanted to remain in New York, which is why he fired Boras. Boras is famous for getting players to test the market in search of the highest bidder. The Yankees are trying to save money right now, meanwhile, over in Queens, the New York Mets will have only two players under contract in 2014 and a wallet full of cash as they will get ready to invest on available talent. Cano apparently wants no part of that, which is probably why he chose to go with Jay-Z.

Jay-Z is from Brooklyn. He has a hand in the Brooklyn Nets, though only a minority owner, it's obvious Jay-Z has impacted the sights and sound in the Barclays Center. His influence is immense in music and business. Apparently, Jay-Z is now trying to get his hands on sports forming part of organizations like the Nets and now the Yankees.

That's the best conclusion to be drawn. Cano went to Jay-Z because he wants to stay a Yankee. Remaining with Boras meant a lucrative deal, but Cano appears to be interested in stay in the navy blue pinstripes.
