Eddie Lacy's draft stock was at an all-time high at the end of the 2012 college football season. After the Alabama running back had a standout performance in the National Championship game, many NFL draft experts predicted he would be the first running back taken off the board, most likely in the first-round. However, since then, his draft stock has continued to fall due to a lingering hamstring issue.
Lacy injured his hamstring while training for the NFL combine in mid-February. He was unable to run at the combine and unable to participate in Alabama's Pro Day in March. While the running back continues to stress that he is healthy, he continues to reschedule his workouts for NFL scouts, leaving many to question his talent at the next level.
At this moment, Lacy is scheduled to hold a personal workout on April 11, coming after numerous delays. It is unclear whether or not Lacy is still not healthy from the injury or if he is still trying to get faster before being timed by scouts. If he continues to put off his workouts, he could drop out of the first round all together.
Lacy rushed from 1,322 yards last season which ranked him second among SEC running backs. He had 17 touchdowns, leading the SEC with at least 10 rushes per game. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry. These kinds of stats have ranked him as the top running back in this year's draft class. Experts predicted he could go to the San Diego Chargers or maybe the New York Jets. He weighs in at 231 pounds which gives him the size of a typical NFL running back.
Lacy's strength is yards after contact. He thrives on rushing between the tacklers and breaking through the line. Scouts are beginning to question whether or not he has the breakaway speed that many teams want for their running backs.
The fall of Lacy comes at the moment Marcus Lattimore's draft stock continues to rise. While Lattimore is not predicted to go in the first-round due to a leg injury sustained last season, he has put himself in the running to be drafted pretty high. If Lacy is not able to perform well for scouts, the two could be in a dead lock to be drafted.
