The Kansas City Chiefs have the best pick in the upcoming NFL draft and they cannot decide what they want to do with it. Plenty of teams are interested in the No.1 overall pick and yet Kansas City cannot decide whether or not they are one of them. While it has been speculated they will attempt to trade the top pick to another team, they are looking at top draft prospects in case they decide to use. The Chiefs are reportedly working out Florida Gators defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd, according to the Chiefs official Twitter page.
Floyd is considered one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL draft on April 25. Many experts are assuming he will be off the board after at least the top five selections. He is the type of player that can play almost every position on the defensive line and be extremely effective. He can play in either a 3-4 defensive scheme or a 4-3 scheme. Kansas City runs a 3-4 defense and sees Floyd as someone that can be an effective pass rusher. He would be expected to run alongside nose tackle Dontari Poe.
While Floyd does have average arm length, something that weighs heavily on defensive linemen, his athleticism and ability to handle a high-powered offensive make him very appealing to multiple teams. At 300 pounds, he can stuff the run or get off the line quickly to rush the quarterback.
Kansas City could just be showing interest in him to set up a slight smoke screen to other teams. They recently released right tackle Eric Winston and are rumored to be attempting to deal left tackle Branden Albert. It was assumed that they would target Luke Joeckel with their No. 1 pick considering they open roster spots in that position.
The Chiefs are also reportedly interested in trading the pick in order to earn more draft picks in later rounds. Head coach Andy Reid is notoriously always interested in keeping all draft options open when picking close to the top. The Jacksonville Jaguars are picking at No. 2 and are interested in quarterback Geno Smith. They could potentially offer Kansas City a trade to move up in the draft order. The Arizona Cardinals and Buffalo Bills are also showing interest in Smith, so the Chiefs would have plenty of suitors if they decide to not take Floyd No. 1 overall and instead hand the pick to someone else.
