The Kansas City Chiefs continue to work towards becoming relevant for the 2013 football season. They have made significant upgrades to the team this offseason with the signing of quarterback Alex Smith, retaining top veterans and now adding free agent talent. The Chiefs have signed former Atlanta Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson. The team has agreed o a three-year contract with the free agent.

Kansas City was in need of a cornerback. Robinson had been cut by the Atlanta Falcons due to cap space and partially due to skill. He struggled to make interceptions and be a strong coverman. The Falcons felt he was no longer worth the deal he was earning.

Robinson will pair nicely with safety Eric Berry. The Chiefs could move him to the nickel position and have a much stronger secondary. The Chiefs had been rumored to be exploring the free agent market for cornerbacks. Head coach Andy Reid loves the cornerback position. He made that a focus during his time in Philadelphia. While the NFL free agency period does not begin until 11 PM, Robinson was released last week, already making him an NFL free agent and able to sign with any team.

The signing of Robinson makes the draft a little more interesting. The Chiefs currently hold on to the No. 1 overall pick and have to make a decision on what they want to do with it. It was rumored that the team was looking at Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner who impressed scouts during his time at Alabama and at the combine. Reid loves the position so it cannot be ruled out that he will still take Milliner first overall.

The Chiefs are already set at quarterback with the signing of Smith, so they will be looking to grab one with the top pick. It is a possibility that the singing of Robinson could mean the Chiefs are looking at an offensive tackle. Texas A&M's Luke Joeckel has been assumed to a be a possible No. 1 pick and could end up heading to Kansas City. The Chiefs could also trade the pick away for veteran players.
