The rumors concerning Darrelle Revis will continue to swirl until a decision is made or someone comes and gives a definite statement on what the team intends on doing with the cornerback. The New York Jets have danced around the Revis issue, going back and forth on what will be done with his future.  Now, Rex Ryan is making his public stance on the issue, saying everything regarding Revis is simply a rumor.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News is reporting that New York Jets head coach Ryan is saying there is "no truth to the trade rumors." The Jets had been rumored to be shopping Revis during the NFL combine, trying to piece together the best deal in order to get rid of the cornerback. Nothing seemed to be able to come to fruition as Revis is still technically a Jet. The Jets could not get the trade package they wanted, reportedly seeking two first round draft picks in return for Revis.

Ryan's statement leaves the door wide open for interpretation. Prior to the NFL combine, Ryan went on record saying that while the Jets would love to hold on to Revis, a trade is always possible with anyone on the team. Now he comes out saying there is no truth to rumor, it could all mean anything.

Revis has been one of the most premier cornerbacks in the NFL since he entered the league. However, the Jets at this moment are not a good football team and they need to make moves to become better. Trading away the team's best player does not seem like the best option.

The issue is the contract Revis is requesting. He made over $7 million last season and will be requesting much more. The likely theory is the Jets cannot afford to pay Revis upwards of $16 million, which he will likely request, to retain his services. Revis is also coming off of ACL surgery after injuring his knee in the second game of the season. He could return as strong Adrian Peterson did, but that is a heavy risk to take at the price Revis wants.

General manager John Idzik referred to Revis as a "very valued player on the team." He said the main concern is to get Revis healthy and playing again in preparation for next season. It is really anyone's guess whether or not Revis will remain in New York.
