Darrelle Revis Trade Rumors: Kansas City Chiefs In Running For Cornerback Deal, Team To Sign Jermichael Finley If He Is Released By Packers?

The Kansas City Chiefs have the number one overall pick in the NFL Draft in April and the team is the front-runner to acquire Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers, but that doesn't mean they are done when it comes to bringing in new players.

Although it would likely take a lot to pry him from the New York Jets, according to ESPN.com, the Chiefs could take a run at trading for cornerback Darrelle Revis, a player they would love to add to their defense. The team struggled greatly in passing coverage last season and after losing Brandon Carr the previous season in free agency to the Dallas Cowboys, Revis would be the perfect addition.

New head coach Andy Reid loved having top cornerbacks on his team, which is one reason why the Eagles signed Nnamdi Asomugha and traded for Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Revis could help solve their issues in the secondary.

The team has expressed interest in trading for Alex Smith and they appear to be the front runners, but no deal has been completed yet and the team could decide the number one pick is too much up in the air to spend on an offensive lineman like Luke Joeckel. Revis would immediately upgrade the Kansas City secondary and would give Revis a fresh start after playing his career in New York.

The Chiefs were rumored to be interested in West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith before news of the Alex Smith trade came out and now that a quarterback appears off the table, the team could get creative if they want to trade the number one pick. The Chiefs still have to decide if they want to sign free agent Brandon Albert, who will command up to $10 million per year and the team could decide to take Luke Joeckel instead.

The Chiefs could use the number one pic to lure the Jets into a trade and the move would reunite Revis with new Kansas City defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, who he played for in New York. The trade could also get the team the number nine pick and would enable the Chiefs to have Revis and Brandon Flowers as their two main corners, a tandem that would be as good as any in the league.

Revis is still coming back from an ACL injury and if the Jets feel that he will not be back to his potential, they could decide a deal now is better than losing him for nothing later.

The Chiefs could also be in the running for Green Bay tight end Jermichael Finley if he is released by the Green Bay Packers, as the team recently released Kevin Boss themselves. Finley could provide a solid option in the passing game for Alex Smith or whoever the Chiefs throw out at quarterback and would team with Tony Moeaki to form one of the best positional lineups in the league.
