Here's How Jonte Wells Uses Real Estate to Shape Young Athletes Into Future Leaders
"

Understanding the need for multiple streams of income to further his dreams, Greater Purpose Athletics founder Jonte Wells uses real estate as a building block to empower his calling, future athletes, and the local community.

"Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it." This quote from Michael Jordan holds true to the mindset of a leader.

Jonte Wells uses property to plan and implement initiatives. In real estate since 2017, he's created a diversified portfolio of homes, businesses, and real estate projects, creating generational wealth for his family while supporting the community. Continuing his passion to invest in himself and others, he added Greater Purpose Athletics to his portfolio in 2021.

Growing up in the inner city of Chicago, Jonte had limited access to sports facilities but never forgot how instrumental playing basketball was in keeping him out of trouble. Observing how difficult it was for inner-city kids during COVID and remembering how impactful facilities like this help keep kids off the street, Jonte was committed to do something that positively impacts the community.

A 12,000 sq. ft. multi-sport training facility just outside of Chicago, Greater Purpose Athletics, or "GPA", helps young athletes develop life skills, improve their athletic abilities, and apply what they've learned. Although an impressive multi-sport training facility outfitted with three shooting stations, a full-size basketball court, weight room, and other fitness amenities, GPA is more than a gym or place to go - it has a bigger purpose.

"Sports can help lay a positive foundation for kids, teaching them how to deal with criticism and building thick skin," says Wells. "As an athlete, I learned at an early age how to deal with consistent ups and downs. You need to have the ability to bounce back, stay positive, and find ways to overcome adversity. This helped strengthen me as an entrepreneur."

Studies often show parallels between entrepreneurship and sports. Successful entrepreneurs and athletes both have the same seven key characteristics in their wheelhouse, just applied differently. These are passion, vision, tenacity, self-confidence, flexibility, tolerance for fear, and rule-breaking. Although business owners and athletes work differently, the overall mindset is the same.

The staff and kids being trained at GPA have a unique family dynamic. Jonte believes in investing in his athletes and building relationships. He takes the time to talk to each athlete, giving them personal guidance that can assist in overcoming challenges.

"I want young athletes to know that their purpose may be bigger than sports. Whatever you do, don't cheat yourself. Give it your all - your purpose will find you. You won't have it all figured out right now, but you will find your way. As an entrepreneur, I've learned how to believe in myself and give it a shot, even when I was unsure."

Jonte continuously builds on the fundamentals of his sports background, applying them to his business ventures. "There are always going to be high ups and low-lows; you have to be resilient in the face of challenge and hire people that are the best at what they do, so I can continue what I do best at the management level. It is important to allocate and assign skilled people where they are needed."

Although a new venture, Greater Purpose Athletics has had explosive growth over the past few months, surpassing its initial goal. The location appeals to the entire community due to its program offerings, services, and accessibility for those who may have to rely on public transportation or travel from the surrounding suburbs.

Looking toward the future, Jonte's plans to continue building memberships, making Greater Purpose Athletics known throughout the state. He also has his eyes set on continuing to build a name for himself and his family while adding additional investments to his portfolio that consistently empower the community. He currently owns two organic waxing studios (Sugaring NYC), eight duplexes, and flips homes throughout the year.
