Ronda Rousey defeated Liz Carmouche in the first round of the main event at UFC 157. To no surprise, Rousey finished it off early and did it with her special move, the arm bar. It took her 4:49 to retain her Bantamweight title.
With the victory, Rousey defended her title for the first time. "Yeah is this real life right now? I'm not sure," said Rousey after the fight concluded. Not only is she the first UFC women's champion, but she's a pioneer for women in the sport after defending the title.
Though she finished the fight in the first round, Carmouche pushed Rousey to the limit and for the first time, Rousey was in trouble.
Rousey tried setting the pace early throwing lefts immediately. She had Carmouche on the octagon floor, but things quickly turned grey. Somehow, Carmouche put Rousey on a standing triangle and twisting Rousey's face. Carmouche looked to have control of the fight and looked just moves away from defeating the champion.
However, Carmouche couldn't really get a good hold of the neck and Rousey flipped around using her hips and Carmouche was on the floor once again.
With her back on the mat, Carmouche had to protect herself, but Rousey took control. She layed on top of Carmouche and Rousey simply punched her opponent on her forehead repeatedly.
Though Rousey was in control, Carmouche had a chance to rid herself of trouble. However, the powerful and patient Rousey just put the match away using her strength and discipline rolling on her back and then applying her signature move: the arm bar.
From the beginning of the event, Rousey's focus was noticeable. Carmouche made her entrance to Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction." Sporting white trunks and a blue top, she calmly waited for the Bantamweight champion to step out onto the octagon.
Rousey stepped on to the ring with white headphones around her neck and wore all black attire. She also sported a vicious look on her face during introductions. She was no longer the beautiful woman everybody had seen in magazines, she had transformed into a warrior. Carmouche might have shown some signs of weakness early on as she smiled after her name was introduced.
Though Carmouche smiled briefly, Rousey knew her opponent was dangerous and she proved this by going straight after her and though aggressive, she took her time to put her opponent away.
Rousey is now considered a champion and a pioneer of the sport of UFC for women.
