UFC 157 Fight Prediction and Preview: Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche Offers Historic Ultimate Fighting Championship Event In Anaheim

Feb 23, 2013 05:08 PM EST

No matter who wins, history will be made at UFC 157 on Saturday night in Anaheim as the first-ever female fight goes down in the Ultimate Fighting Championship between Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche.

Rousey enters the match with all the focus as she is the defending champion in the match, but Carmouche is no slouch, as she was a former US Marine. Years ago, the idea of women fighting in the UFC was impossible according to president Dana White, but all that changed with Rousey.

UFC 157 will also feature a number of other fights, including a co-main event light heavyweight match between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida. The rest of the event includes Josh Kacheck against Robbie Lawler, Court McGee against Josh Neer and Urijah Faber and Ivan Menjivar.

The women's bantamweight championship will have the main focus on Saturday as the 8-2 Carmouche takes on the 6-0 Rousey, who won a Strikeforce title last March over Miesha Tate with an armbar.

Rousey showed off some of her superstitious side at the press conference for the event, refusing to touch the title belt until after the fight, although White draped it over her shoulder.

"I don't deserve it. I won't even touch it until I win," Rousey said, according to Yahoo Sports.

Rousey is 26 and has an undefeated record due to her use of her signature armbar take downs. She averaged a little over 90 seconds in her fights and she comes in with her strengths being judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. She has a reach of 66 inches and comes in at 135. Carmouce is older at 28, but has less of a reach at 65 inches. Her strengths include kempo and jiu-jitsu as well. She has gone 3-2 in her past five fights, while Rousey has gone 5-0.

PREDICTION: Rousey takes it in an armbar. All the attention is on Rousey and she knows it. She has been through a lot in her life, including the death of her father and she will be holding that with her when she fights on Saturday.

The main events are on pay-per-view, while the preliminary fights and will be live on Facebook and FX.
