Philadelphia won the first matchup between them and the Winnipeg Jets. However, the Jets have won the first two games of a five-game road trip and hope to continue to capitalize on their road success going into Philadelphia. The Flyers must attempt to bounce back after a bad loss to the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
The Jets are now recovering from the loss of rookie defenseman Zach Redmond who had his leg sliced open by a teammate's skate. Redmond had surgery and will miss the rest of the season. It is a tough loss for the team. Winnipeg is starting to put together some solid games after struggling at the start of the season. The loss of Redmond could hurt their momentum.
The Flyers have struggled at home a bit, losing two of three, after opening the season 3-1 at home. They failed for a third time to win three straight this season after losing to Florida, a team that is currently on a five-game losing streak. To make things worse, forward Matt Read will miss six weeks with a torn rib cage muscle. Read was currently tied for the team lead with seven goals, and he is a key contributor on specials teams for the Flyers. Jakub Voracek is streaking right now, knocking in four goals and recording five assists during a four-game point streak and leads the Flyers with 19 points.
With a key player out for each team, this matchup could become interesting. Both sit below the cut to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs and need to begin to win a few games in order to get in the mix. Winnipeg is putting themselves in a better position with the momentum gained after two straight wins. The question will be which team bounces back faster after the loss of a big player.
