New York Jets Rumors: Darrelle Revis Staying in New York? Head Coach, Rex Ryan, Does Not Expect the Cornerback to be Traded

When the Jets took the podium during the 2013 NFL Combine, they were sure to make one statement very clear, they are not planning on trading Darrelle Revis. This is the first real statement on the situation with the cornerback after rumors  began to surface that the team could be shopping Revis to other teams. Head coach Rex Ryan stressed there have been no internal discussions regarding the cornerback's future in New York.

"We have not discussed trading Darrelle Revis. Darrelle is under contract, and I can't wait to get Darrelle back there. I wouldn't be shocked if he had the kind of year that Adrian Peterson had after ACL surgery," Ryan said.

Revis suffered a season-ending ACL injury back in September that he has been rehabbing since. While Ryan said Revis would not be leaving the Jets, he said that anyone is susceptible to trades and anything could happen.

This is a much different attitude from the team, who just last month offered up very noncommittal comments regarding Revis' future, fueling the trade speculation. However, new general manager John Idzik is now offering up his praise for Revis and desire for him to continue with the Jets.

"With respect to clarity, I don't know that anything has really changed because we really have always wanted Darrelle to be a part of our team. That has not changed. I think there's been rumors or stories published and it's really hard for me or anybody in our organization to speculate and answer to all the rumors or stories that we hear. With respect to Darelle, we have always want him to be a part of the New York Jets," Idzik said.

Idzik's previous noncommittal approach did not make Revis too happy. He recently tweeted out that he was stunned and speechless about the Jets' approach about the situation.

Revis is currently entering the final year of his contract that is earning him $11.5 million per year. He is one of the highest paid players on a team that just cut five veterans in order to get under the league's mandated salary cap. He is scheduled to make $6 million in 2013 and currently has a clause in his contract that prohibits the Jets from placing a franchise tag on him.

The Jets front office is rumored to be reluctant to sign Revis to another large contract that would eat up most of their cap space. No matter how many times the Jets squash the trade rumors, Revis' looming expiring contract will keep them around.
