NFL Rumors: Chicago Bears' Johnny Knox Retiring?

Feb 13, 2013 04:56 PM EST

The Chicago Bears' wide receiver, Johnny Knox, looks to have finished his career in the NFL following a disastrous injury that barely left the 26-year-old able to walk.

Knox was recently cut by the Bears as they figured their three-year receiver wouldn't be available to play or adequately contribute to the team's chances of winning.

"He had to work himself back up to where he could even walk," said Bears former position coach Darryl Drake. "He had to work to get himself up out of bed." Asking the wide receiver to once again step foot in a league going through controversy and facing changes, is unhumane. It is unlikely Knox will draw interests from any teams around the NFL.

It's almost tough to watch, but the Seattle Seahawks folded the receiver in half from a hard hit. Here's the video.

Ouch! Knox's agent says the receiver will be back in action, but many sources are telling the Chicago Tribune that Knox is likley done. Who can blame him? A hit like this must be traumatizing.

The Bears look like they will have to find another wide receiver to compliment the weekly efforts made by their No. 1 receiver, Brandon Marshall, who also had a tough time in 2012 and sounded like he was ready to quit on his team.

When healthy, Knox was a deep ball threat. His best season came in 2010 where he nearly caught 1,000 yards passing. He recorded 51 catches for 960 yards and five touchdowns. Knox was completely inactive in 2012 as he continued to recover from the back injury.

There are plenty of wide receivers out there for the Bears to choose from. In the mean time, we will wait for Knox to officially announce his decision as the offseason continues to roll along. Is Percy Harvin a possible choice for the Bears in 2013?
