Rams NFL Rumors: Chris Johnson Trade To St. Louis Option As Sammy Watkins, Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews Draft Targets?

The St. Louis Rams were one of the worst passing teams in the NFL last season after Sam Bradford went down with an injury and now they could add Mark Sanchez as a free agent option to be his backup and since they have the number two pick in the draft this season, names like Sammy Watkins, Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews, Jadeveon Clowney and Johnny Manziel all are potential targets for the team and that could be an option along with a Chris Johnson trade.

The Rams reputedly has been interested in signing Kenny Britt, but they could opt to wait for the draft and take someone like Sammy Watkins at number two overall. The team has been mentioned as one that will get targeted for trades in the draft since they are at number two and if they want a player like Mike Evans, the Rams could conceivably trade back in the top 10 or 15 picks and get him as well. According to ESPN.com, the Rams have interest in bringing in Sanchez and now that he did not end up signing with the Eagles, he could be an option to come in and backup Bradford this season.

Sanchez had some solid years with Brian Schottenheimer in NY and that could be a good connection for the two as he tried to salvage the career that the Jets basically mismanaged and railroaded last season. Sanchez is lucky to be out of the black hole that is the Jets and while he may not get the chance to start this year, he could get the opportunity to compete in the future and with Bradford coming back from surgery, he may even get some extra playing time if he signs with the Rams.

The team also has a major decision to make when it comes to the number two pick, as the Rams could trade the pick and move down while getting some other selections and that could give them some prime talent heading into 2014. The team is likely avoiding the quarterbacks in Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles and that makes Sammy Watkins, Greg Robinson, Jake Matthews and Khalil Mack as potential picks.

Jeff Fisher loves his beefy linemen and Matthews and Robinson are the highest rated in the draft coming out, with many calling for Robinson to be taken in the top five. Matthews is considered a more raw talent, but he also could be the option for Fisher and the Rams. Robinson put up great numbers at the combine and if the team goes OL, he could be the pick. Adding Watkins to an offense that already has Tavon Austin could really open things up for Bradford this year.
