NFL News And Rumors: Josh Freeman Seeking Trade From Buccaneers, Raiders Or Vikings Possible Landing Spots?

With Week 4 of the 2013-14 NFL season scheduled to begin Thursday night, new reports around the league are that Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman is now seeking a trade after being demoted to the backup role behind Mike Glennon, according to sources close to the situation.

No official communication has been made from Freeman the source said but the request to engage in trade talks are expected to soon follow.

Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano made the decision to move Freeman to backup role after he and general manager Mark Dominik said they "believe that this gives us the best chance to win today."

"Mike's our starting quarterback from this point forward," Schiano said. "We're moving forward and Mike's our quarterback. That's the plan, and that's how we're going.

"We've lost eight of nine games and we haven't played particularly well on offense in the last nine games," Schiano said. "Although it's not completely the quarterback's fault, that position touches the ball every play."

The Bucs are making the change in part because they feel it is beneficial for Glennon with the bye week coming after Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Specifics on the interest of other teams in Freeman are currently not clear but the fifth-year veteran could be a good fit with a few teams in need of help at that position including the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings.

Freeman was a Pro Bowler in 2010 when he played under Greg Olson the now-Raiders offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay from 2009-11.
