Chelsea Transfer News: Benitez Coy on New Signings, Says Senior Players Need to Make Way for Youngsters

Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez remained coy on potential new faces coming in at Stamford Bridge in January, as the likes of Taison, Marouane Fellaini and Isco continue to be linked.

The Blues have already landed Demba Ba from Newcastle, after triggering his buyout clause. However, despite strengthening considerably in the summer, Chelsea are still expected to bring in a couple more new faces in the next couple of weeks, with Brazilian Taison expected to be the latest.

Asked about the transfer speculation surrounding the club, Benitez remained calm, saying all deals would be done quietly and without creating too much fuss.

"You know and we know we will see a lot of names in the newspapers," Benitez said. "Sometimes it is because it's true, sometimes it's the agents, sometimes it's because they don't have anything to talk about.

"It is normal in the transfer market but for us we just concentrate on football.

"I am really pleased with my squad, with my players, they are doing well and hopefully we can improve them. I will not talk about the market, sorry. I know it is January but we do our business between us.

"If we have to do something, we'll do it. I have to respect and trust my players. That's what I will do.

"We want to win all the games. In any club it is important but especially when you are challenging and fighting for trophies."

There is a sense of a changing of guard at Chelsea, with the likes of Didier Drogba already departing the club and Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole expected to leave at the end of the season.

Benitez acknowledged the transition, while emphasizing on the fact of not continuing to live in the past and embracing a brighter, different, future.

"Everyone knows the legends have been here and what they have achieved but you have to see new players coming in," Benitez said. "It's part of life.

"You have to think about the future and move forward, bring in new players and try, at the same time, to bring the best out of those you have. You have to use their experience, too.

"I can see the club is changing things for the future, thinking about being successful again. It's not just: 'Oh, we won (the Champions League) and that's it.'

"You have to keep winning and evolving as much as you can. That means you have to keep bringing in good new players. Every year you have to bring in someone else but, last summer, you saw three or four players -- Eden Hazard, Oscar, Lucas Piazon and Marko (Marin) -- and they will need some time.

"Maybe in the next couple of years we will be talking about these players as fantastic players and then we will be talking about other players who need to come. That is part of the evolution of the team."

Lampard is one player who will definitely not be at Stamford Bridge next season, and Benitez was cautious when talking about the Chelsea legend's future. "I think it's too early to talk about teams and the future," he added. "Frank is under contract and playing for us. That's it.

"You know my idea. He's doing well, working very hard and I will try to bring the best from him. My position is exactly the same and if he can carry on scoring goals, I will be really pleased. And if Frank can carry on scoring goals and we can win games, I'll be even happier."
