Manchester United Transfer Rumors: Frank Lampard Set to Sign for United in the Summer; Ferguson Ready to Bid for Muslera

Manchester United are favorites to sign Frank Lampard when the midfielder leaves Chelsea in the summer, while the Red Devils have reportedly made a bid for goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.

Lampard's agent Steve Kutner confirmed that the 34-year-old would end his 12-year alliance with Chelsea at the end of the season, after the Blues hierarchy told they would not offer his client a new contract.

Two big teams in England - Manchester United and Arsenal - were immediately linked with moves for the prolific midfielder, who is just nine goals shy of equaling Chelsea's all-time goalscoring record of 202 goals set by Bobby Tambling.

United, however, have now moved up in the queue, with Sir Alex Ferguson offering the veteran a lucrative one-year deal, with the promise of a further year, if things go well, according to the Sun.

Lampard, while being initially reluctant to play for another English club, is now open to the move, as he believes performing at the highest level in the English Premier League will keep him on the list for representing England.

The former West Ham player still wants to finish on a high with Chelsea, and will only move to another club in the summer.

Meanwhile, United have reportedly made a £14 million offer for Galatasaray goalkeeper Muslera, according to the Turkish press.

While it is understood no official offer has actually been made, Sir Alex Ferguson is definitely keen on bringing in an established goalkeeper after seeing David De Gea put in several unconvincing performances over the past couple of seasons.

Muslera was impressive for Galatasaray during the Champions League games against United, and has been one of the standout players for Uruguay over the past few years.

The goalkeeper is still only 26, and Ferguson feels he will add that extra bit of quality behind the posts.

United have also been keeping tabs on Stoke City custodian Asmir Begovic and Liverpool's Pepe Reina. De Gea has been widely tipped to move to Real Madrid at the end of the season, with Iker Casillas' future still up in the air.
