Liverpool Transfer News: Joe Cole in Talks with QPR over January Move

Dec 30, 2012 10:25 PM EST

Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Queens Park Rangers over the sale of playmaker Joe Cole.

Cole, despite some decent performances whenever given a chance by Brendan Rodgers this season, was not even a part of the 18-man squad that won at QPR 3-0.

It is quite clear that the new manager does not consider Cole as a part of his plans, and with the former England international earning around £90,000 a week ($145,000), Liverpool are keen to offload the player, according to Sky Sports.

QPR manager Harry Redknapp, who has worked with Cole when he was a youngster at West Ham, is desperate to add some experience to his squad after having to sit through another insipid performance, which left them further adrift at the bottom of the table.

Redknapp has criticized some of his high-earning members in the squad, and has mentioned bringing in players who will fight for a cause that is looking increasingly impossible.

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard said he was happy with his side's performance, particularly in the first half, which saw two goals from Luis Suarez and one from Daniel Agger inside 30 minutes pretty much sealing the game.

"I wouldn't say it was easy, that would be disrespectful to QPR, they are having a tough time," Gerrard told Sky Sports.

"If we started well we knew we could quieten the crowd and that was the best we've played this season in the first half.

"The plan was for us to get more goals, but Harry Redknapp is a top manager and QPR changed things in the second half so credit to them.

Suarez scored two well-taken goals, with the first one showing the Uruguayan's talents in abundance, and Gerrard was all praise for his teammate.

"He's been brilliant ever since he came here," the club captain added. "He's a magician.

"These clubs have to play him twice a season but we have to play against him every day!"
