MLB Playoffs Standings and Results: NY Mets Get 4-0 NLCS Sweep Against Chicago Cubs, Blue Jays Win Over Royals For 3-2 ALCS

Oct 21, 2015 08:43 PM EDT

The Toronto Blue Jays won over the Kansas City Royals in Game 5 of the ALCS and the series now is 3-2 heading into Game 6. The Royals are leading the series, while the NY Mets are looking to sweep the NLCS 4-0 with a win over the Cubs in Game 4, while Chicago hopes to make the series 3-1.

Update: The Mets won over the Cubs in Game 4 to complete the series sweep. The team advances to the World Series.

The Royals took the first two games of the series to take a 2-0 lead over the Blue Jays and now the series is 3-2 after Toronto has come back to cut the lead. The Blue Jays won with offense and strong pitching in Game 5, as the team won 7-1 behind seven innings from Marco Estrada. Troy Tulowitzki had a big day with two hits, a double and three RBI and the Blue Jays did not trail in the game.

The Blue Jays dropped the first two games of the series and then won 11-8 against the Royals in Game 3 to cut the lead to 2-1 for Kansas City. The Royals hammered the Blue Jays in the next game and Toronto was able to rebound with a win in Game 5. The teams will play Game 6 in Kansas City next and that could be the end of the series for the Jays if they can't win and force a Game 7.

Estrada only gave up one hit into the eighth inning and that was big after the Toronto bullpen was taxed in the last game. The time off gives the bullpen time to get rested and it also allows the Blue Jays to give starters Marcus Stroman and David Price rest heading into the next game. Roberto Osuna closed out the game and now the pitching matchup for the next game will have Yordano Ventura against David Price, who lost in Game 2 of the series.

The Mets are looking to sweep out the Chicago Cubs with a win in Game 4 at Wrigley Field and the team has Steven Matz on the mound. The Mets won games behind Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard and Jacob DeGrom and now the team has the chance to make it to the World Series. The odds of the Cubs coming back are near impossible, but the team can look back to the Boston Red Sox, who previously erased a 3-0 series deficit against the Yankees.

The Cubs have not been to the World Series in decades and the team has not won a World Series since the early 1900s. The team is full of young players and while the team has been loose for most of the postseason, they made numerous mistakes in Game 3 and could not overcome them to beat the Mets. The Mets are looking to get into the World Series for the first time since losing the Subway Series to the Yankees in 2000.
