Sir Alex Ferguson revealed Manchester United playmaker Shinji Kagawa has started training"

Former Manchester United player Henning Berg wants United strikers to be more lethal in front of goal, to fully make use of the talents of new signing Shinji Kagawa.

After signing from Borussia Dortmund, Kagawa has been a revelation at United, immediately blending-in well into the team. The Japanese international has been thriving in the role behind the striker, and Berg believes it is United's finishing that has let them down, after Kagawa has opened up the defences brilliantly with his creative influence.

The 23-year-old was one of very few United players, who had a good game against Galatasaray in the Champions League, where United were lucky to escape with a 1-0 win.

Although another new signing Robin Van Persie has started his career at Old Trafford well, Berg believes there is room for improvement, particularly from the other striker's Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.

"I was very impressed with Kagawa (against Galatasaray)," Berg told talkSPORT.

"He looks a top player and is a real bundle of energy.

"His positional play in that role gives Man United something extra. They've not had someone in that role before.

"The only thing missing is someone to score all the chances he makes.

"Kagawa gives Man United an extra dimension. His positional sense is excellent both offensively and defensively. He's always available to get on the ball.

"It's easy for Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick to find him."

United will again look towards the creative talents of Kagawa as well as Van Persie when they travel to Anfield to face bitter rivals Liverpool, in what promises to be a highly-charged up encounter.

Meanwhile, United captain Nemanja Vidic knows the game against Liverpool will be difficult, with the central defender saying "Liverpool always have a good game against United".

"These are the games you want to play in," he told the club's official website. "There's always a good atmosphere, our fans give us great support at Anfield. We'll go there to enjoy the game and play good football.

"We're in good shape at the moment, we have a few players back from injuries and I think we will prepare well for this game.

"If you look over the last few years, it doesn't matter how they are playing or how many points they've got, Liverpool always have a good game against United. They'll be strong, they'll be aggressive and they obviously have strong support from their fans.

"It's a different game. Form does not give any team an advantage. It's a game by itself. We have to think about that. We're not going there as favorites, we just have an equal chance of winning."
