The Miami Dolphins have been hinting at a Mike Wallace trade all offseason and now that the team has acquired Kenny Stills in a trade from the Saints the team could look at moving Wallace and this comes as the team has signed Jordan Cameron to a free agent deal and still is working on Charles Clay, who is a main target for the Buffalo Bills.
According to ESPN.com, the Dolphins acquired Stills from the Saints for Dannell Ellerbe and a 2015 third-round pick and now he may take over if the team moves Wallace. The team wanted Wallace to take a pay cut and he has rebuffed that a bit and it comes after the Dolphins already released Brian Hartline. Stills is a young player and an exciting one coming from the Saints and he also is very cheap, as he is getting paid less than $1 million in each of the next two seasons.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly, the Dolphins are trying to move Wallace and they are hoping for a team to take his contract off their hands. The team signed Ndamukong Suh to a major deal and they also added Jordan Cameron and they would like to free up more cap space. The Vikings could be one option, while the Browns also could be in the mix. The Browns have Josh Gordon suspended for the season and they are lacking depth at WR despite adding Brian Hartline.
NFL Network's Albert Breer writes that while Buffalo is making a play for Clay, the Dolphins would like to use the TEs the way the Pats did with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. The team could try and keep him, but it remains to be seen. The Miami Dolphins signed the top free agent on the market in Ndamukong Suh and now they have also added Cameron, who dealt with concussion issues last season and is a player with a ton of potential. Cameron comes in as an athletic tight end and he could be a prime option even if the team loses Clay.
The Dolphins used the transition tag on Clay and that means they will not get any compensation if another team signs him to an offer sheet. According to ESPN.com, the Bills are considering giving an offer sheet to Clay along with the Cleveland Browns. The Dolphins would have seven days to match the offer. The Browns are looking like they are out of the mix and reports from NFL.com have the Bills making a "serious push" for Clay.
The Dolphins signed Suh to a contract worth $114 million and they now will have intense pressure to make the playoffs in 2015. Ryan Tannehill is coming back after having his best season in his three years in the league and the Dolphins want to surround him with weapons. The Dolphins went 8-8 again last season and they have made some major moves now by adding Suh and a solid young wideout in Stills.
Wallace has been mostly a disappointment for the Dolphins and now he could be on his way out. The Dolphins feel that adding Suh and making these other moves closes the gap in the AFC East for the team.
