Arsenal Transfer News: Nuri Sahin Not Moving to Arsenal, Says Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger dismissed reports linking the Gunners with a loan swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin.

Reports in the British media suggested, Sahin was on his way to an English Premier League club, with the possibility of that team being Arsenal thrown in.

However, Arsene Wenger, speaking to reporters after his side's 2-0 loss to Manchester City in a pre-season friendly in Beijing, refuted the reports.

"We did not sign anybody today, this report is wrong," the Frenchman said. "We are not signing anybody at the moment. We are not close. In the future you never know."

Wenger did not change his stance when quizzed on the future of Robin Van Persie. "We have talked about Van Persie," a visibly irritated Wenger said. "We have just played a game, there are four English people here and there have been four questions about him.

"I have talked about Van Persie and I'm not talking about that question anymore. Do you understand?

Prodded further on whether the club had received any new offers for the Dutch striker, Wenger said: "Van Persie is close to fitness. But we have not had any more contact from City or United about him.

"We have our main strikers at home and Van Persie is one of them. But we have Podolski and Giroud who are at home, so we have plenty of strikers.

"For us at the moment it is to prepare for the season -- it is more than any individual player."

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini also confirmed they had not made an offer yet. "If he said this, I think it's true," the Italian said. "Van Persie is one of the best strikers so it's difficult to buy him."

Meanwhile, goals from Pablo Zabaleta and Yaya Toure gave City a 2-0 victory over the Gunners in a packed Bird's Nest stadium.

Arsenal, who, as always, had the bulk of the possession failed to take their chances, as City took theirs to give them a victory against their fellow title contenders ahead of the new season.

"It was lively and both teams tried to play," Wenger said. "We were quite dominant in the first half but suddenly found ourselves down 2-0 against the run of play.

"City played on a very solid defence with five real defenders and we played forward without calculating too much.

"We were a bit vulnerable on the counter-attack and that is where we got caught.

"But overall what is important for us is to see everybody play and give everybody competition. We lasted 90 minutes at quite a good level."
