Juventus ruled out an immediate move for wantaway Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie, insisting the Gunners were not ready to sell their player.
Juventus, along with Manchester teams -- United and City - are understood to have made official bids to try and sign last year's top scorer in the English Premier League, after the striker admitted he wouldn't sign a new contract.
It was believed, Van Persie prefers a move to Turin, after reportedly being offered the most salary of the three clubs. However, Juve director Guiseppe Marotta said the deal was far from possible in the current situation.
"A top player is not only judged by how much he costs," Marotta told Sky Sports Italia.
"It can also mean a player who costs less but on the pitch shows an absolute value.
"Van Persie is a great player, but Arsenal do not intend to lose him. And you cannot indulge in a player if the owners don't want (to sell).
"Talk of our real interest in him seems excessive to me."
Marotta also ruled out a move for Stevan Jovetic, who has also been linked with the Gunners as a replacement for Van Persie. "As for Jovetic, it's only right that Fiorentina ruled he is off the market.
"We never even tried to get close to him."
The director, however, confirmed the Paul Pogba signing was imminent. "Pogba? He arrives tonight and he will quickly take his medical, then we will sort out the details of his contract."
Pogba reneged on a contract offer from Manchester United, leading to Sir Alex Ferguson accusing the Frenchman of showing a lack of respect.
Meanwhile, Roberto Mancini voiced his frustration on Manchester City's failure to bring in Robin Van Persie.
Asked about the Van Persie situation, Mancini said competing the transfers were not his job. "For this question, speak to the man in charge," Mancini told reporters ahead of his side's pre-season friendly against Arsenal in Beijing.
"I am not in charge of this. It is important (to get players quickly) because, after what we did last year, we must continue to win.
"This year will be harder than last, so we need to improve our team. We have a man who works for this and we hope that they can do a good job."
