The MLB standings for the AL and NL at the 2014 trade deadline has division leaders in the Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers and LA Dodgers, while the wild card teams are the Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants in American League and National League heading into July 31.
The Baltimore Orioles are leading the AL East and they are ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays and the NY Yankees, while the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox are also there, but not very close to the division lead. The Rays have been hot and have now played back into the wild card race and that means they likely will not trade David Price, while the Red Sox may trade Jon Lester.
The AL Central is basically locked up with the Detroit Tigers leading the Kansas City Royals, while the Cleveland Indians are alive for the wild card ahead of the White Sox and Twins. The AL West has the Oakland Athletics in first place ahead of the Angels by two games, while the Mariners are 11 back ahead of the Astros and Rangers.
The National League East race has the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves battling, while the Miami Marlins and Mets are hanging around in the wild card. The NL Central has the Milwaukee Brewers leading the St. Louis Cardinals and Pirates by two games, while the Reds are hanging around in the wild card. The West has the Dodgers and Giants fighting it out, while the Padres and Diamondbacks are way back.
The American League wild card has the Los Angeles Angels fully in the first spot, while the Toronto Blue Jays are in the second wild card spot by two games over the Yankees. There is a group of teams chasing the second spot, with the Mariners, Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Indians along with the Tampa Bay Rays all in the mix. The Rays have been on a great streak lately, while Seattle has been a mess since the All-Star break, even with Felix Hernandez pitching his socks off.
The National League wild card is a scrum with four teams right at the top, with the Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants currently in the spots. The Cardinals are a half game out along with the Pittsburgh Pirates, while the Reds and Marlins are just 4.5 games out of the wild card spot. The NL races are very tight and that should be close until the end, while the Angels appear to have the first wild card spot in the AL wrapped up barring a bad losing streak.
