LA Lakers Rumors: Kevin Love Trade or LeBron James Targets For 2014 Summer? Draft Pick Could Be Traded For Kyle Lowry

May 23, 2014 10:52 AM EDT

The LA Lakers could be looking at a trade for Kevin Love this offseason and while the team is coming off of a terrible year, they have the chance to turn it around, as LeBron James or Carmelo Anthony could be free agent targets if the Love trade doesn't work and Los Angeles also could be looking at a sign and trade with someone like Melo or Kyle Lowry after getting a top 10 pick in the draft lottery in 2014.

The Lakers had a terrible season that was filled with injuries and poor play and now that Kobe Bryant has had a year to recover from his injuries, he is expected to be back and fully healthy...hopefully. The Lakers are searching for a head coach and they have a number of issues to work out, but they are still the Lakers and that gives the team something to work with this offseason. Pulling the Kevin Love trade might be too much for the franchise and while signing Melo of LeBron seems like a reach, the bright lights of LA have attracted many starts before.

James is likely staying in Miami, but if the team loses in the finals or doesn't make it, there is always a chance he could leave South Beach and take his talents elsewhere. James could fit with Bryant in LA, but that also could mean a clash of egos. Either way, the Lakers are making some type of big move this offseason and it could include Love or even a sign and trade with a player like Lowry or Anthony. Carmelo is likely to stay in New York, but after the way the team played last season there is no telling what he will do.

Anthony missed the playoffs for the first time in his career and with the front office situation what it is and with Mike Woodson gone, Anthony realizes the Knicks are not in championship mode yet. Anthony is getting older and while he loves NYC, he may need to go elsewhere and teams like the Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls will be making pushes to sign him and he could be swayed with the idea of playing with Derrick Rose or James Harden. The Rockets will have to make moves to sign anyone, as they have a ton of money tied up in Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik.

The Lakers had their worst season in years and they went just 27-55 and now they have a nice draft pick in a deep draft and they could end up getting an impact player if they don't trade the pick. The Lakers ranked 29th in the league in defense and they have a ton of things to work out heading into next year, but they have a top 10 pick and the motivation to get better. Getting Love would be amazing and he could be open to the deal since LA is a big city and he played his college ball there. While LA was worse than Minnesota last season, the Lakers have a bright future always because they are the Lakers and while they are down now, it likely will not be for long, especially if they can get Love or someone like Anthony or Lowry.
