The NBA MVP award winner for 2014 is going to be Kevin Durant according to recent reports and this comes after LeBron James won last year and the two have been battling back and forth all season for the Most Valuable Player Award and now the Oklahoma City Thunder star looks poised to win his first MVP and it comes just as his team advanced into the second round of the playoffs.

According to sources and ESPN.com, Durant will be names MVP this week as his team picks up the second round against the LA Clippers and that series starts on Monday. The report says that Durant likely will be named the MVP in a news conference on Tuesday when the announcement is made and then he will be honored before the game in OKC for Game 2 and that will on Wednesday and it will be the first MVP award of his career after finishing in second place multiple times to James. James had another fine season, but the voters realized how strong Durant played this year and on top of that, he had to pull his team through without Russell Westbrook in the lineup for an extended stretch and he also led the league in scoring once again.

The Thunder won in Game 7 120-109 against the Memphis Grizzlies to advance into the next round and now Durant likely will win MVP. Durant led the league in scoring with over 30 points per game and this week Michael Carter-Williams will also win the rookie of the year.

LeBron has won four of the past five MVP awards and now he likely will get knocked off and the other award was won by Derrick Rose in that time. Durant ended the season averaging 32.0 points per game and he was very impressive while shooting over 50 percent from the floor and he also played in 81 games this season.

This season Durant has set numerous records and he finished the year with 42 points against the Detroit Pistons, which was his 14th 40-point game of the season. Durant had 21 points in the fourth quarter of that game and he helped his team clinch the second seed in the western conference for the playoffs as well behind the San Antonio Spurs. The Thunder won over the Pistons for the ninth straight time and he helped the team come back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and he has continued to play very well all year and now will take that into the playoffs.

Durant ended up breaking the record held by Michael Jordan for consecutive 25-point games with 41 and he also put up a career best 31.9 points per game this season and now he has the chance to win his first MVP. He has finished second to LeBron James in the voting and now it appears to be his time to win it and other players like LeBron James, Joakim Noah, Blake Griffin, Al Jefferson and Chris Paul have arguments, but this season it's only Durant and James in the mix.
