The NBA MVP award debate this season has been a very good battle between Kevin Durant and LeBron James, but now that the season is over, many have made predictions that the Oklahoma City Thunder star will unseat the King in 2014 as the Most Valuable Player in the league.

Durant has had a fantastic year and that's not even taking into account that Russell Westbrook missed significant time for the Thunder, leaving KD as the main playmaker and scorer for the team. Some voters may be having LeBron fatigue, but the play on the court will win out this year and while James was still fantastic this season, Durant was simply better and now he likely will win the MVP. SI.com predicted that Durant will win it, with their experts all picking Durant as the number one option.

This season Durant has set numerous records and he finished the year with 42 points against the Detroit Pistons, which was his 14th 40-point game of the season. Durant had 21 points in the fourth quarter of that game and he helped his team clinch the second seed in the western conference for the playoffs as well behind the San Antonio Spurs. The Thunder won over the Pistons for the ninth straight time and he helped the team come back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and he has continued to play very well all year and now will take that into the playoffs.

Durant ended up breaking the record held by Michael Jordan for consecutive 25-point games with 41 and he also put up a career best 31.9 points per game this season and now he has the chance to win his first MVP. He has finished second to LeBron James in the voting and now it appears to be his time to win it and other players like LeBron James, Joakim Noah, Blake Griffin, Al Jefferson and Chris Paul have arguments, but this season it's only Durant and James in the mix.

LeBron has won four of the past five MVP awards and now he likely will get knocked off and the other award was won by Derrick Rose in that time. Durant ended the season averaging 32.0 points per game and he was very impressive while shooting over 50 percent from the floor and he also played in 81 games this season.

Durant could get his team to the finals, but either way, he should be the MVP this season.
