Miami Dolphins Rumors: Mike Wallace Trade For Evan Mathis With Dion Jordan Option To Philadelphia Eagles After DeSean Jackson Release?

Mar 31, 2014 11:11 AM EDT

The Miami Dolphins have been mentioned in trade rumors this offseason regarding both Mike Wallace and Dion Jordan and one move they could make is with Evan Mathis and the Philadelphia Eagles, as the offensive lineman is on the trading block and after cutting DeSean Jackson the Eagles could be the market for another wide receiver for Chip Kelly's offense.

The Dolphins locked up their rushing game by signing Knowshon Moreno and they have also been reshaping their offensive line this offseason and that's why Mathis could be in the mix for a deal. According to Miami Dolphins ESPN.com reporter James Walker, the team is interested in potentially trading for Mathis at the right price and one option could be with Jordan or Wallace. After the Eagles released DeSean Jackson they have a need at receiver despite picking up Darren Sproles this offseason and while Wallace may be too much money for the team, which was one reason cited for releasing Jackson, it's a deal they could look into.

The Dolphins reportedly are shopping Wallace and Jordan and this comes after earlier reports this offseason that the team was trying to trade their top five draft pick from last year. Things may change now that the draft is getting closer, but Kelly could have an eye on his former star at Oregon in Jordan, as he played the best ball of his career and put up his best stats while playing under Kelly at Oregon and that was why he was made a number three overall pick in the first place. The Dolphins ditched Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito and have brought in Branden Albert on a contract and now they could look to snag Mathis as well.

The Eagles have remained mostly tight lipped about Mathis, which is the same way they were about Jackson before releasing him and now they could get rid of the guard after he made the Pro Bowl. Mathis has a five-year, $25 million contact that he signed in 2012 and he is coming into the third season of that deal and that is one reason why the team have him the option of finding a trade. At 32 years old Mathis is getting over the hill but he's not there yet and he could be a nice upgrade for the Dolphins, who ranked 26th in rushing last season and that was in large part due to the fact that they couldn't block, giving up 58 sacks last season to rank last in the league.

ESPN.com in Philly reports that Mathis wants a raise from his $5 million salary after the team gave money to Jason Peters and Jason Kelce and that is one reason why he has been put on the trading block. He has been a very consistent player during the past few years and that could make him a solid addition for the Dolphins. The team added Albert and guard Shelley Smith and they have the draft picks to move to get Mathis if they feel the price is right with Kelly and while a move with Jordan or Wallace is unlikely, it could go down closer to the draft.
