Arizona Cardinals Rumors: Karlos Dansby, Andre Roberts Likely Gone As Free Agents, Zach Mettenberger Draft Pick Possible for Carson Palmer Backup?

Feb 27, 2014 03:26 PM EST

The Arizona Cardinals nearly made the playoffs in 2013 and they return a solid team in the toughest division in football in the NFC West and heading into the 2014 offseason and draft, the team may be letting free agents to be Karlos Dansby and Andre Roberts go, while they may consider taking a player like Zach Mettenberger to serve as Carson Palmer's backup.

Dansby could be on his way out depending on the price he asks for as a free agent and in the same boat is Andre Roberts at wide receiver, as Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald are locked in as the top options. Dansby is 32 years old and he will be an unrestricted free agent and he will be looking for a raise most likely after he made $2.25 million last season and he was very good, with 122 tackles and four picks to go along with six sacks and he had a very good year and could get some attention on the market.

Dansby outperformed many younger and more expensive players, but that doesn't mean he will cash in. Roberts had 43 catches for 471 yards and two touchdowns and he will be hitting the market and now the team could look at a number of other players, including Ted Ginn, Tiquan Underwood or Robert Meachem.

According to ESPN.com, the Cardinals could consider a player like Zach Mettenberger in the draft, as he could be a long term backup or starter for and after Carson Palmer. The team has Ryan Lindley and he is not the answer and if Palmer plays a few more years, someone like Mettenberger could be an option later in the draft.
