The Los Angeles Lakers have been hit by the injury bug big time at the point guard position this season and after dealing with injuries to Steve Nash and Steve Blake, the team now will be without Jordan Farmar for up to a month after tearing his hamstring and that could compel the team to pull off a trade for someone like Kyle Lowry, Jameer Nelson or Brandon Rush, after the team did not want to add Dion Waiters in the deal with Pau Gasol for Andrew Bynum.

According to ESPN.com, Farmar will be out for up to four weeks after tearing his hamstring and while the team added Kendall Marshall previously to add depth to the roster rather than make a trade, that was before Farmar was injured and now they could be more motivated to make a move to try and salvage the season. Reports from Pro Basketball Talk has the team in some discussions involving Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum, as a deal for his expiring contract and Bynum's non-guaranteed one could save the team $20 million and that could facilitate a move with one of the mentioned point guards. The Lakers are already playing without Kobe Bryant and now Farmar will be out of the lineup for a month at least. UPDATE: The deadline for the trade is over and Byunm was not moved.

Nash and Blake are working their way back from injuries and Farmar falls out of the lineup after playing in 22 games and averaging nearly 10 points and five assists per game this season and that leaves Marshall as the current starting point guard. Farmar had already missed 10 games as well and with Xavier Henry also banged up, the Lakers are getting desperate at the position and a move could be coming as the deadline gets closer.

The Lakers aren't going to tank, but with the western conference as deep as it is and the injuries as numerous as they are all coupled in with the age of Kobe does not bode well for the team this season. They are in the bottom part of their division with a 13-19 record and they now are coming into 2014 after a bad loss to the Milwaukee Bucks and they next play the Utah Jazz on Friday before a matchup against the Denver Nuggets at home and they need to start turning things around for a chance to get back into things.
