Nov 03, 2013 07:10 PM EST

The NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup got some some dramatics on Sunday and the Texas 500 saw Jimmie Johnson win the race and now he takes a seven point lead in the championship standings over Matt Kenseth and his victory puts him in great position to win his sixth championship with the Phoenix race coming next week.

Johnson took advantage of some cautions and other issues on the track as well as a crash and now he will have the advantage heading into the Nascar Sprint Cup Series at Phoenix and he could end up with his sixth title after taking the lead with just two races left to go. Johnson has been moving along up the standings over the Chase and he was impressive all day on Sunday with his car.

LEADER: Jimmie Johnson now has a seven point lead over Matt Kenseth
SECOND: Kenseth couldn't capitalize and now the two are no longer tied and he is in second place.
NEXT: The next race in the Chase is at Phoenix International Raceway and that will be on Sunday November 10.

The race should be tough for all three on Sunday and Johnson is going to start up in third after qualifying earlier in the week and Kenseth will be right behind him and that should be the main point of excitement for the event in Texas. The points lead is tied and tight and Carl Edwards comes in as the pole winner and it is the first he has won in Texas and he has won the past two times the race has been at the track and that makes him a favorite at the top in a race that could have a big impact on the postseason standings and Gordon will be in the top 10 as well after coming in eighth and that will put him in solid position to be a factor once again.

Brad Keselowski won on Saturday and he will be along on the first row after coming in second and winning on Saturday in the Nationwide race and he led in over half the laps in the race and while he is not in the Chase, he will be dealing with the top part of the standings after coming in the top row and could be a factor on Sunday in the event. Gordon moved up two spots in the standings due to his win last week and now he is in the top three on Sunday and will be a factor moving forward and Kyle Busch is right there as well and for those behind Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth, they will need to perform on Sunday. The Texas 500 will be at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday in Fort Worth starting up at 3:16 pm with the green flag for the Chase for the Sprint Cup event on ESPN.

Jimmie Johnson won at Texas Motor Speedway and now he has a seven point lead over Matt Kenseth after winning the Texas 500 and now he has his sights set on the sixth championship for him and now he has the Chase for the Sprint Cup lead heading into the next race.

The NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup makes its way to Texas Motor Speedway in Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth and on Sunday the race will broadcast on ESPN starting up after 3:00 pm and after winning last year, Jimmie Johnson will battle against Matt Kenseth as he tries to vault ahead in the points standings with just two left and the green flag is set for 3:16 pm.

Johnson won the race here last season and winning the event this year will put him ahead of Kenseth in the standings and now that Jeff Gordon has a win under his belt in the Chase after last week, he could be a factor in this race and down the line in the standings with a good performance on Sunday. Kenseth and Johnson are tied atop the standings with just three races to go and Gordon is right behind less than 30 points and so is Kevin Harvick and this could be one of the most exciting and dramatic finishes to the season. Gordon came into the Chase on a controversial decision and now he is in the running after a big win at Martinsville and that could give him a chance come Sunday with another solid performance.
