ALCS Game 4 Score: Red Sox vs. Tigers Updates with Play-by-Play and Lineups

Oct 16, 2013 07:46 PM EDT

Check out the score of Game 4 as the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers play at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. As part of the score, we bring you the lineups and break down how they look, what they can provide and how they have/can be improved.

Detroit Tigers Lineup
The Tigers are the home team, we know. They should go second as the scoreboard always gives way to the road team (Boston). However, Jim Leyland, the Tigers manager, must have used the time between yesterday's Game 3 loss and all of his afternoon Wednesday figuring out how to change the Tigers' lineup.

What was wrong?

Saying everything was wrong is unfair, but the Tigers have been very inconsistent in the ALCS against the Red Sox. Jhonny Peralta, Victor Martinez and Alex Avila have acarried the load in this series. Avila is hitting .300 with one home run and three RBI. Meanwhile, Peralta is hitting .417 with an RBI and three doubles, while Martinez is hitting .364 with two doubles and a run batted in. Combined, Peralta and Martinez have yet to strikeout.

So the problem is at the top of the lineup and this how Leyland figured he could change things up in Game 4.

1. Torii Hunter RF
2. Miguel Cabrera 3B
3. Prince Fielder  DH
4. Martinez DH
5. Peralta LF
6. Avila C
7. Omar Infante 2B
8. Austin Jackson CF
9. Jose Iglesias SS

The most interesting switch is seeing Jackson bat eighth, with Hunter leading off for the first time in over a decade. Cabrera is also in a surprising spot, hitting second. He is hitting .182 with a .250 on-base percentage so far in this series. Hunter has also struggled, striking out four times in the series, but he has managed to get his hits, averaging a poor .214.  Jackson has been a strike out victim five times in this series.

Boston Red Sox Lineup
For Boston, well, you cannot fix what is not broken. Though the Red Sox have struck out more than 10 teams in each game, but they are up 2-1 in the ALCS. There's not much going on, here's their lineup.

1. Jacoby Ellsbury CF
2. Shane Victorino RF
3. Dustin Pedroia 2B
4. David Ortiz DH
5. Mike Napoli 1B
6. Daniel Nava LF
7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia C
8. Stephen Drew SS
9. Will Middlebrooks.
