TBS MLB Playoffs Announcer Cal Ripken Jr. Has Mother Held Up At Gun Point, Mom of NLCS Broadcaster Has Second Incident After Kidnapping

The mother of Baltimore Orioles great and current TBS MLB playoffs broadcaster Cal Ripken Jr. is either the luckiest or the unluckiest woman in Maryland, as she was held up at gunpoint for the second time in recent years, but this time she was able to "scare" him off.

According to the Baltimore Sun, Vi Ripken, who was previously taken at gunpoint and kidnapped in Aberdeen before being released, was approached at a bank in Aberdeen in the parking lot and the report says that the man said he wanted to steal her car. The Sun reports that she scared him off using the panic button on her car keys and that this time she was uninjured and the man ran off afterwards.

Ripken is no stranger to being held up, as she was once taken from her home and driven around in a car while tied up before being released. No suspects have been arrested in that case and although police have said that two incidents are unconnected, it still is pretty crazy. Ripken's mother ended up safe after being kidnapped and police said that she was approached at her home that time and was forced by gun into her car, after which they drove her around before letting her go.

The Sun said that police are still looking into the events and that the man in question was taken into custody after the police found him on Wednesday. The police said that while it was "unusual" for something like this to happen with the same person again in just over a year, they said that the incident are unrelated and comes a year after there was a $100,000 reward for Ripken about the abduction. Cal is also an all-star in the booth this postseason. Just sayin.
