The Philadelphia Eagles have a new head coach in Chip Kelly and while he has not yet selected a quarterback to start the season, Michael Vick appears to be the best option after being the starter last season and he has taken a leadership position with the team through the Riley Cooper situation.

Vick spoke with Peter King on his new website the MMQB for the 3Q interview and spoke about a number of topics, including the Riley Cooper situation. Vick spoke about Cooper and said that while the situation was very bad, he is still his teammate and that it isn't in the character of the person he knew and how he can be welcomed back into the locker room.

Vick spoke about second chances in the context of his own issues with jail and dog fighting and said that Cooper deserved one as well. He also spoke about Chip Kelly and his new offense and how the team is picking it up.

On Riley Cooper:

I've been Riley's teammate for three years. Three years ... I just know what type of person he is. I hung out with him in a certain way that was diverse, with blacks and whites and we were all together. I know that [racial epithet] isn't in his character, and after seeing the video, and everyone talking about, the first thing I thought about was: 'How can we just not give him an opportunity to explain himself, and somehow or some way reinvent himself?'
