The Chicago Bears hit primetime as they host the San Diego Chargers Thursday evening at 8 p.m. ET. Both teams are looking for their first 2013 NFL Preseason victory and you can witness the action live. The Bears and Chargers appear to be after the same thing, wide receivers. The Bears don't want to settle for just Brandon Marshall. They are one great receiver away from becoming a true force in the NFC North. Last year, they fell a game away from the plostseason. They were a good regular season team, going 10-6, but with the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings leading the way, the Bears were left watching January football from home.
The Chargers are truly in bad condition. Though Malcom Floyd's injury does not appear to be truly harmful, the Chargers lost Danario Alexander. However, on the bright side, at least Floyd is smiling around camp following the injury as the MRI showed a strain on his right knee. "It could have been worse... (The knee) feels better than it did yesterday. Fortunately, I kind of dodged a bullet," said Floyd on Tuesday. Let's just say Floyd and the Chargers dodged a Robert Griffin III scare. Floyd will be observed by Dr. James Andrews.
Both the Chargers and Bears saw great things in their first preseason games, though both teams lost.
The Bears continued to terrorize offenses and last week it was the Carolina Panthers who felt the wrath as Chicago had four takeaways in that ball game. Jon Bostic returned an interception while Zack Bowman also had a pick and Serrick McManis added a fumble recovery. Quarterback Matt Blanchard completed 15/18 passes for 194 yards, but he did throw an interception. Jay Cutler was precise in his eight passing attempts, completing six for 56 yards, but he also had an interception. Blanchard also impressed on the ground, rushing for 26 yards on four attempts to lead the team in ground offense. Marquess Wilson, wide receiver, went for 82 yards on four catches.
The Chargers controlled the ball longer than the Seattle Seahawks and they matched them with 17 first downs, but they only had four touchdowns. Combined, quarterbacks Philip Rivers and Brad Sorensen completed 12 of 16 passes for 129 yards with the latter throwing a touchdown. Charlie Whitehurst struggled, going 7/15 for 59 yards and two interceptions. The Charger defense will have to step it up. They allowed four sacks, but didn't return the favor, not even once. Their secondary also did not intercept any of the Seahawks' passes, going down as a -2 in turnover ratio.
