Ray Lewis is one of the newest personalities to join ESPN and to give a preview of what he will be like on the air, Sports Illustrated writer Richard Deitsch spoke to the former Ravens linebacker about many different topics, including the Aaron Hernandez murder case.
Many in the media have wondered how Lewis will cover the case when he joins the network, as he once was involved in a murder case and was brought to trial for being charged in a double murder 13 years ago and pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice. Deitsch asked Lewis about the issues and he mentioned that he should probably not get too deep into it, just giving facts and not judging the case or what's going on.
Clearly Lewis will walk a fine line anyway, but this case will bring about many emotions for people and having him talk about it could be an issue, as many still feel that Lewis got off after being involved in the investigation.
"It would only be to give a brief explanation on what you know," Lewis said. "Because if you are talking about getting into the case - what happened, how it happened - that's the judge's job, that's the police's job. Having gone through the things I have been through, what I learned from that is everybody has something they want to say, and 80 percent of them are illiterate.
"You have to be careful with it. You can't speak about something you do not know. Give your opinion, and keep it moving from there."
