Sports movies are some of the most fun and inspirational films that are out there and baseball movies hold a special place in some people's hearts, especially "The Sandlot", which was released 20 years ago and had a mini-reunion out in Utah.
The crew of actors and creators of the film were featured in a recent Sports Illustrated issue in a "Where are they Now" article and now the group has met up once again in Utah, at the baseball field there the movie was filmed and that hat was made to look like it did again back in the when it was made. Some of the actors who played the characters of Yeah-Yeah, Ham, Squints, and Timmy Timmons were at the reunion and along with the AAA Salt Lake Bees, they put on a clinic for the local kids in the community.
That wasn't the only surprise for the actors and kids while at the event, as director David Mickey Evans used the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend and set up a theatrical proposal by doing it at home plate. Evans met his fiance on the set of another film and now they are engaged to be married. The film was released in 1993 and starred Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi as well as big name actors Karen Allen, James Earl Jones, Dennis Leary and Mary Shelton in supporting roles. The film takes place among a group of young friends playing baseball in the summer of 1962 and it was filmed in Salt Lake City. It is considered a classic among baseball films and among young boys who grew up during that time.
